Religion - Today we did our memorization and then reviewed the duties of a bishop. We will give the bishop our thank you notes on Sunday.
Math - The kids were both caught up on their math for the week so they did their Xtramath and we moved on to watching a documentary about the Brooklyn Bridge. After they watched it, I had them give me a short narration about what they remembered. They remembered that it took 14 years to build the bridge which was a third of Washington Roebling's life. They also remembered that 40 men died building the bridge and Washington Roebling was severely injured by the bends while building the bridge. Racer was very impressed that Roebling was there building the bridge alongside the rest of the men.
Latin - I had the kids take their Latin test together today because I knew Chicklette wouldn't be able to do nearly any of it herself. They didn't do as well as I expected them to do. I can see that we need to give the practical Latin saying more attention.
Spelling - Both kids got all their spelling words correct today. Chicklette has passed off level one of All About Spelling, which means I need to pull out the level 2 book and make sure I have the cards ready to be organized. Turtle is almost ready to begin level one. I am so glad I changed to doing my spelling lessons the way my friend showed me. It is so much more efficient for all of us and Racer's handwriting is getting so much better.
After lunch and putting the babies to bed, we started Racer on the last couple written sections of the ITBS test. We only have two more oral tests to do and then we will be done.
Chicklette and I practiced her reading because her reading fluency is not where it should be. She took her DIBELS test on Tuesday and I know she's going to be below grade level again. She did much better sounding out nonsense words with me than she did on the test with the other teacher.
Grammar - Chicklette's grammar was on verbs. Today we covered the part of the definition that says, "A verb is a word that does an action. . . " She thought of some good action words. Racer also reviewed verbs today and we reviewed all aspects of the definition. We also introduced indirect objects today.
Physics - We quickly did our physics test on light today. Chicklette got them all correct and Racer missed one. He thought that a mirror reflected only some of the light it received whereas the answer is that it reflects nearly all the light it receives.
Road Trip USA - We started Nebraska today so the kids are so jazzed that we are going to have Kool-Aid tonight with dinner. I found out today that Nebraska contains the most miles of river of all the states. I would have thought it was Minnesota because of all the lakes. We listened to a meadowlark call and looked at pictures of white-tailed deer and goldenrod.
