I can't believe it. I missed a post last night. It was laundry day and I had to fold a bunch of clothes and we took a field trip to the Conference Center and I needed to give my DH my time as well. Rest assured, we did do school and, while it may not have been fabulous, it was completed. Now, onward and upward to today.
Religion - We sang our LDS apostle song twice today. Sunshine sang along with us. I am hoping to be able to do a matching game tomorrow but we would actually need to start on time. Math - Racer is still working with fractions. He only missed one on his assignment today. While Chicklette did her Xtramath, Turtle and I did a reading lesson. This kid is really a reading star. He's doing great so far. When Chicklette was done with Xtramath, we played an enrichment game. Basically you draw three lines for your three places - hundreds, tens, and ones. Then you roll the dice and decide where you want to put your number. Should it go in the hundreds place or the tens or the ones? Then you roll again, place that number, roll a third time and place that number. The point of the game is to get the highest number out of everyone playing. We played it yesterday with just the tens place and the ones place and I won. Today with the hundreds, tens and ones places, Chicklette won 10-3. It's funny how much she likes that game. Tomorrow we are going to do an adding game. Library - We actually made it on time to the library today. The story time was about fairy tales and Christine, our children's librarian, brought in some fun, off-beat ones to share. I got to meet up with a friend of mine that just had boy/boy twins about four months ago. We had a good time chatting about twin stuff and about our husbands work. They both happen to work at the same place and in the same group. After the library, we went to the Dollar Store. There were a couple things that I wanted to get for myself and I felt like we should put together a care basket for our neighbor who just lost her grandmother this past week. I also wanted to pick up a bunch of workbooks for Turtle since he was asking for some real math work. I found a couple good ones. Piano and Latin - While I did Chicklette's piano lesson, I had Racer do his vocabulary flash cards for Latin. Then we switched. Chicklette needs to build up finger strength and I had to keep stopping her from twisting her hand in weird positions. As soon as she gains the necessary finger strength, she'll do better. Racer doesn't know his notes as well as he thinks he does. I'm also nearly positive that he didn't practice one of his songs this week, but he swears he did. We'll see. He had to stay on that one song because it was not up to par yet. Physics - We talked about the second half of Newton's Second Law of Motion and the kids wrote a summary on it. Basically it says, the bigger an object is, the more force it takes to change its course. And then we read a little snippet about Orville and Wilbur Wright. We'll read more about them in a few months when we get to the 1900s in history. History - We finished up on New York today and finished reading If You Lived at the Time of the American Revolution. The kids seem to have really enjoyed that book. We put up our beaver, striped bass, and Eastern Bluebird on our animal board and also added New York State to our map. I wish we had a dedicated schoolroom so we could hang up some of our things like our map board. Some of the animals keep falling off since we have to store the boards on the side of a chair every day. Writing with Ease - We didn't get to Writing with Ease today, but Chicklette reassured me that we could do two tomorrow. I'll hold her to that, unless we decide to go to our friend's grandmother's funeral. We knew her too and really liked her. |
