One year and four months ago, we found out we were having twins. It was the last thing we expected and I was so scared. I didn't think I could nurse two babies and I wasn't sure I could raise two babies and four other children all at the same time. I wasn't even taking homeschooling off the table because I wasn't sure I would be able to do that either.
One year ago today, I delivered two healthy, beautiful full-term baby boys and we began our adventure. Today is their birthday. We have had our rough moments and sleepless nights. We have also had lots of loving support and friends. I have learned what I am capable of and what my body can do. My patience has been stretched. I've learned more about being prepared for kidtastrophes and to be prepared with an activity while we are waiting for appointments. I've learned how to go with the flow and to plan ahead. It has been an eventful year.
Bubbers #1 is a little more physically adept. Only a little. He has learned to scale the barrier we have between the kitchen and the living room. He still likes his thumb but generally reserves it for bedtime and naptime. He loves his brothers and sister.
Bubbers #2 is more talkative than his twin. Again, only by a little. He loves to go up the stairs. He definitely lets me know when he needs some Mommy time and thankfully that happens in the late afternoon when I generally have a little bit of downtime between school and dinner. He also sleeps just a little less than Bubbers #1.

I made the twins apple cakes with caramel frosting. The frosting was amazing right when I made it, but when we ate it this evening it was a little grainy. I'm not sure why, maybe that's how it's supposed to be. It still tastes good. They got a bunch of toys from their grandparents and some books. The rest of the kids loved the new toys too. Bubbers #2 got hold of a blue Sesame Street toy and from then on, that was his toy. I wonder if he will be so attached to it tomorrow.
In other news, we've been canning again. We came home from our apple source with five filing boxes, three buckets, and two shopping handbaskets full of apples. I've done many, many more quarts of applesauce, several fruit leathers, juice, jelly (It was supposed to be syrup, oops), dried apples and canned apples. I can't even keep track of how many I've done. Today I took the day off of canning and it felt like a vacation. We did a light day in school - just math, science, and the library. I will be so excited to be done with apples.
