Do you know what happens when you put a quarter on a plug that is still plugged into the wall? Well, let me tell you, the quarter melts to the plastic part of the plug and the breaker downstairs trips. We can thank Turtle for that bit of knowledge. Oh, and there's a black scorch mark on the outlet in the wall. Oh, the things that happen when you are reading your history lesson and you think your kids are quietly playing behind the couch.
Religion - Today we drew little pictures on our timelines of Joseph Smith's history to remind us of what happened in his life so far. The kids are doing very well with their memorization, even Turtle and Sunshine. Sunshine repeats the scriptures after us. Racer also colored and cut out the paper dolls that are scheduled for tomorrow or the next day.
Math - Both kids did their Xtramath today and Chicklette finished the practice page she was supposed to do four days ago. We need to go over her problems though because she got almost all her word problems wrong. Racer had some problems on his math today too. A couple were off by just a little bit because he wasn't paying attention or moving too fast. He was kind of complaining that he got them wrong because they were only off by a little. I reminded him that math answers were either wrong or right. There was no almost right. He got a little messed up on his word problems too and we took some time today to correct them.
Physics - We did our physics quiz that we didn't get done on Friday and the kids did okay. Turtle is picking up some of Newton's laws as well. He walked around the house today with a magnet and whatever it would stick to, he would say, "There the magnet is at rest. That's Newton's first law of motion." Chicklette and Racer built a fan out of their K'nex gear set. It's a pretty cool set.
History - We finished up Vermont today and I thought we had some Ben and Jerry's ice cream in the freezer but it ended up being a different brand. We also caught up on our reading in If You Were There When They Signed the Constitution. Tonight we watched the second episode in America: The Story of Us.
Latin - We watched the video for our Latin lesson #8 and the kids did their flashcards from lesson 7. They actually paid attention to the video today I think. I hope.
Spelling - I made sure to do spelling today because we have been putting it off for about a week or so. Both the kids have some issues with spelling and we need to have more consistent practice with it. I know Racer knows the rules for his spelling but you wouldn't know it by how he writes every day.
Tomorrow should be a busy day but it will be Racer's last soccer practice which will help our time crunch a little bit. He's really enjoyed playing soccer and it's been fun to watch him.
