Well, I know it's day 4, I'm simply not sure what week it is. According to our Writing with Ease, it is week 22 so I will go with that. As much as I love co-op and it's great for the kids, it is nice when it is our week off. We got to watch a couple movies I didn't know we would have time for and we still got done on time.
Tomorrow I take Racer to be tested for the ELP program in our state. I'm still not really looking forward to it. Not that I think he will be stressed out or that it will be a bad experience. It's just one more step toward public school about which, as we all know, I am deeply conflicted. I'm sure he will do well and he may even enjoy himself. I actually usually liked standardized tests. Anyway, enough of that. I'm sure you are all here to hear how our day went.
Religion - We started as we always try to with our religion class and memorization. Yesterday's lesson and today's followup was about the three kingdoms or three degrees of glory. Chicklette narrated to me some of the characteristics of people who will be in each heaven. I was glad she didn't focus on just members of our church in the celestial kingdom, but on people who were righteous, followed the commandments and were like Heavenly Father and Jesus. We almost got some chocolate chips for our memorization, but missed a few words here and there.
Math - Racer practiced adding numbers with one decimal point. He would have gotten them all correct but he was in a hurry and made two silly mistakes. He is almost done with Xtramath division facts. Chicklette added two digit numbers and got an A+ today. She was so pleased and happy with herself. She focused a little better on Xtramath today. I'll have to check and see what her progress is.
Science - We watched a Bill Nye movie about balance today. I like how he explains things and even Turtle watches. We haven't watched Bill Nye a lot, but Turtle can say a lot of the intro with the announcer. After school, Racer was performing balance experiments with his Legos.
Latin - Our Latin assignment today was the Speaking Latin portion, which is always a quick assignment.
Spelling - The spelling assignment was to copy the spelling words three times. Chicklette's lesson this week was on syllable divisions, so she just has a few review words this week. Racer learned a couple new phonograms - ti and oe. However his spelling words are words with an unstressed a, so words like alike, around and so on.
History - We finished the book Children of the Dust Bowl: The True Story of the School at Weedpatch Camp. The kids were very impressed with the hard times the Okies went through and we had some good discussions about how we should treat people that are different from us. Leo Hart was a very kind, practical man. We then watched Episode 9 of "America: The Story of Us" which we always enjoy. Those dust storms are just amazing in a terrible way. We also reviewed the states and capitals we have learned so far and practiced our timeline memorization.
Writing with Ease - Racer's Writing with Ease was dictation today. He had a harder time with this selection. I think it was because there were a lot of commas in it. Chicklette just had copy work which she successfully completed in cursive.
That just about finishes off our day. Racer and I spent some time together watching a bunch of The Piano Guys clips and we had a good time marveling at their abilities.
