We went to the Utah Auto Expo tonight. The kids really enjoyed making parachutes and flying them in wind tunnels. Sunshine also picked up a balloon and the kids had a great time chasing that around, playing monkey in the middle and playing keep away. One of the salespeople remarked on it. She was impressed with their innocence and ability to simply play with a balloon and with each other. Our kids can get sucked into electronic devices as quickly as the next kid, but they still know how to play when those aren't around. Thankfully, no one screamed too loudly when they didn't get the balloon.
We kept our schedule fairly light today for three reasons.
I did still want to do school today though because we have several other activities this week and I didn't want to have the other days overloaded. We did finish up Racer's test today so I just have to send that back tomorrow and the we should get the results in a week or two. It will be good info to hand to the school with whichever school we end up going to.
Religion - The kids colored in the Newel K. Whitney store and cut it out. Newel K. Whitney was the first bishop of the church so that's why we focused on his store today. No one got a chocolate chip for being able to say a scripture by themselves yet.
Math - Racer learned about and practiced working with hundredths today. Chicklette reviewed multiplication by twos and threes today. She did pretty good on the word problems she had to do.
Physics - This week will be all about reading a scientist biography and doing a report on that person. I chose Thomas Edison for this report and I will get the book from the library tomorrow.
Grammar - Chicklette and I started memorizing the definition of a verb today. We practiced using action verbs today with members of our family. She did great. Racer and I continued memorizing the poem "Learning to Read" by Frances Ellen Watkins Harper. It's got eleven stanzas but because of the rhyming and the story that it tells, it's not too hard to memorize. We've probably got it half way done.
Writing with Ease - Chicklette had copywork today. She really needs to get control of her hand movements because her words and letters tend to scrawl all over the line they are written on. Racer read a passage about Paul Bunyan and we wrote down a narration about it.
Reading fluency - Chicklette's reading fluency is not where it should be so I am having her read a book every day to either DH, Racer, or myself to practice. She read a Cinderella book to Racer today.
Let's hope Sunshine does not get up tonight as much as he got up last night. I was awakened at 12:30 A.M. by a little voice saying he was "so hungy" and at 3:30 A.M. by him throwing up, and at 7 A.M. by a little Sunshine demanding food. I could do with an uninterrupted night.
We kept our schedule fairly light today for three reasons.
- I marked it as a holiday when I was making out the schedule for the year because of Martin Luther King's day.
- It was Chicklette's birthday today.
