School's done, treats delivered yesterday, babies are taking a forced nap, frozen lasagna is in the oven, and the rest of the kids are watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates. Whew, time to take a breath.
The babies did sleep from 11-2 which was great but around 4 they just started getting crabby. They can't play with the phone? Crabby. Bubbers #2 steals a toy from Bubbers #1? Crabby, crabby. Racer takes a Lego out of Bubbers #2's mouth? Crabby, crabby, crabby. Therefore, forced nap for at least half an hour and you get to see what we did today.
Religion - Today's Advent reading was "Jesus wants us to follow him." We read from 3 Nephi 12:14-16 and John 13:34-35. We discussed how silly it would be to light a candle so that you could have light and then hide it under a basket and we talked about how to love another person without conditions. It's something that we all need to keep aspiring to.
Math - Both Racer and Chicklette did their Xtramath. Then Racer whipped through a packet of word problems. After Christmas break we will go back to his Singapore workbooks. This week and last week, I decided to focus on a couple spots that I thought he needed some extra help on. He is also diligently working on Khan Academy on their programming Hour of Code and the different skills on the skill map.
Spelling - I'm really happy with how our spelling routine is going so far. We had a quick lesson today on /kn/ for Racer and compound words for Chicklette. Now they get to practice their words for the next week and we'll check them on Friday to see how well they are learning them. I also did a quick introduction to alphabetizing for Chicklette. She nodded along like she got it so we'll see if she can do it by herself next week.
Reading Lesson - I tried to do Turtle's reading lesson with him earlier but he had a pretty bad attitude. I spent some time being nice and trying to jolly him out of his bad mood and into cooperating but after a while I sent him up to his room to put his bad attitude into a box and leave it up in the room. He finally was ready to do his lesson and he did pretty well. I'm thinking I should have Turtle and Chicklette, and maybe Racer if he can chill, to do a memory game using the Dolch sight words cards I made up. They could practice reading the words the fast way and finding its pair.
Physics - Racer tried to do the experiment from Gizmos and Gadgets.

It didn't really work but I was too busy making sure both the Bubbers didn't choke on their apples so I couldn't fix it. We'll check it out tomorrow and see if there was something they missed. We can also write it up tomorrow.
History - We finished the Magic Tree House Fact Tracker for Abraham Lincoln today.
History - We finished the Magic Tree House Fact Tracker for Abraham Lincoln today.
After we finished we talked about what setting is and what words you can pull out of the text to show your setting. Racer and Chicklette filled in a graphic organizer with a picture of one of the settings in the book and wrote down words from the book that described the setting. Then we talked about Indiana for our geography lesson today. After dinner we will watch the Division episode from America, the Story of US.
Literature - In Chicklette's grammar lesson we reviewed the poem "The Months of the Year" and then we discussed what ideas are and that they are nouns. Her Writing with Ease was copywork focused on capitalizing the months of the year.
Racer's Writing with Ease was a summary from an excerpt of The Lemonade Trick. I was hoping to find a copy of it at the library since Racer seemed slightly interested in it, but no such luck. I did find The Moffats and we'll see if he will read that book. His grammar was another summary exercise so we just did that quickly instead of going into too much detail.
Okay, I need to get the Bubbers out of their isolation and the lasagna is done so we'll say goodbye for now.
