Tuesday I found a large playyard at our local consignment store. I bought it so we could cage the Christmas tree when we get one and hopefully keep both the Bubbers away from it. They do not like being left in it, but occasionally will tolerate it for short periods of time. They do better if I don't put them in it, but if one of the kids puts them in.
We have been baking up a storm in preparation for our Christmas plates and we keep trying to hide the cookies from DH because otherwise we won't have any left. So far, we have done Ginger Snaps, Pecan Sandies, Toffee (dark chocolate, semi-sweet and milk chocolate), Brunekake, and Chocolate Chip cookies. I feel like I'm missing one off this list but I don't know which it would be. Tomorrow I start on the chocolates. We've still been able to get school done so I'm feeling very accomplished.
Religion - We are still enjoying our advent from Making Christmas Count. It's really brought up some good discussions and we have felt the Spirit. Today we read how Jesus taught us to love and we read the story of the Good Samaritan.
Math - Racer finished his area/perimeter worksheet packet on Monday so he's been learning how to program on Khan Academy this week. He's thrilled to learn how to write programs and it's been difficult to tear him away when it is time to do other subjects. He is nearly finished with the multiplication area on Xtramath and will soon be moving on to the Division area. Chicklette is doing okay on Xtramath but she really doesn't like it and drags her feet on it. She did get on a roll with her Singapore workbook today and flew through four exercises learning about division and multiplication. I don't know if she really understood all of it or if she just figured out the pattern to the exercises and was able to complete them. Her answers were all correct though so I guess we'll figure out what she actually knows later.
Reading - Turtle did Lesson 55 in our reading book today. I've noticed that we really need to be consistent in completing his lessons or he definitely forgets what he's learned. I'm debating starting him on the phonogram cards in All About Spelling, but I'm not sure yet that I should. The cards teach him all the sounds that a letter can make and I don't want him getting mixed up.
History - We got caught up today in Road Trip USA and learned about Illinois. We are also reading about Abraham Lincoln. I had the kids do a graphic organizer about the character of Abraham Lincoln where they had to draw the character and also a scene from the book with the character. They also wrote a sentence about one of their pictures and pulled out some words from the book that described the appearance of the character. They both finished it pretty easily.
Latin - I know Racer did some of his review questions in his Latin book today, but I have a feeling Chicklette didn't make it that far. We are talking about prepositions and also the conjugations of Latin verbs. They haven't called it that in the book, but that is the concept they are introducing.
We had a doctor's appointment for Bubbers #1 today because he seems to have a yeast infection on his thumb. After the doctor's visit we had to pick up the prescription, take Racer to Lego club and then home and then to basketball. DH kindly picked him up from basketball and brought him home so we didn't all have to go out in the cold again.
